Woodstock, N.Y. Sunday, July 22, at 4:00 pm.
Sunday’s program includes Felix Mendelssohn’s spirited String Quartet in D Major, Op. 44, No. 1; Beethoven’s String Quartet in F Major, Op. 135, the last substantial piece he completed; and, in keeping with Maverick’s Tour de France theme, the String Quartet in D Major by César Franck.
Founded in 1988, the Leipzig String Quartet is now widely acclaimed as one of the most exciting string quartets on the international chamber music scene. Three of its members were first chairs in the famous Gewandhaus Orchestra of Leipzig, and the quartet has won numerous prizes and awards, including the prestigious International ARD Munich competition and the Busch and Siemens prizes. The quartet concertizes extensively throughout the United States, Europe, South America, Australia, and Asia. In addition to their successful Maverick concerts, other North America appearances include Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall’s quartet series in Weill Recital Hall, the 92nd St. Y, The Frick Collection, Wolf Trap and the Library of Congress.
