11/24: JOHN ABERCROMBIE and ANDY LAVERNE AT ADAM SPACE, shokan-
A few years back, good friends guitarist John Abercrombie and pianist
Andy LaVerne recorded the well-received concert DVD “The Art
of the Duo.” Abercrombie, whose illustrious history includes
stints with the Brecker Bros., Billy Cobham, and Jack DeJohnette,
as well as several memorable duos with Ralph Towner, is versatile
on both electric and acoustic guitar. LaVerne is a stellar jazz
educator as well as sideman for a veritable Who’s Who of jazz:
Frank Sinatra, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, to name but a few. Jazz
lovers should make the Rte. 28 run for this one. 3091 Rte. 28, www.adamspiano.com,

FRI 11/16: roy BookBinder at the rosendale café, rosendale-
Though the Rosendale Café has great music every Saturday
(the first two Saturdays of December are particularly spicy, with
The Powderkegs w/ Chris O’Brien on 12/1, and The Blue Ribbon
Boys on 12/8), Roy Bookbinder is a must-see in November. Having
learned the blues from none other than the Rev. Gary Davis, Bookbinder
is an amazing guitarist and songwriter (Peter, Paul, and Mary struck
gold with his “If I Had My Way”) who’s toured
with Bonnie Raitt, JJ Cale, and Hot Tuna, so make a night of it
at the intimate Rosendale Café, and get there early for some
great vegetarian food. www.rosendalecafe.com,
