THROUGH 1/12/08: FRANK FAULKNER: CRITICAL MASS AT TERENCHIN FINE
ART, CATSKILL- Beginning Nov. 17, the Terenchin Fine Art will be
devoted to a work in progress: a series of male genital drawings
by Hudson’s Frank Faulkner. The models are exclusively Hudson
Valley residents from all walks of life, and identified with initials
only. The show functions as a preview. At an unspecified time, the
project concludes with the publication of a bound edition featuring
over 100 images from the series. Part two of the show opens Dec.
14. The drawings are replaced by new landscape work. Combined, the
shows present an overview of Faulkner's recent experiments with
explicitly figurative and representational imagery. Reception Sa

THROUGH 2/24/08: SAUL STEINBERG: ILLUMINATIONS, At the FRANCES LEHMAN
LOEB ART CENTER At VASSAR, POUGHKEEPSIE- Though Saul Steinberg’s
work has been prominently displayed to the public eye on the pages
and covers of the New Yorker, there is much that has never been
seen before in this grand retrospective of his work. To quote the
curator of this exhibit, (and author of the 2005 book Steinberg
at the New Yorker ) Joel Smith, “Saul Steinberg’s last
American museum retrospective, in 1978, reflected the priorities
of a living artist who wanted to be sure the public saw his career
as that of a focused, museum-worthy artist. To look at Steinberg’s
career in its full duration, depth, and variety is to catch a close-up
view of the energies and contradictions of the twentieth century.”
Illuminations is the first full-scale review of Steinberg’s
work, covering the 1930s through the 1990s. 124 Raymond Ave., Poughkeepsie,
