12/7: EIGHTH ANNUAL“5 x 7” SHOW AT KLEINERT/JAMES ART
CENTER, WOODSTOCK- This increasingly popular local fundraiser is
back for its eighth season. For those uninitiated, artists of all
levels, styles, techniques, and fame (both national and international)
donate an original work, unsigned, on a small 5” by 7”
canvas. Each piece is then sold for $100, and we’re told that
it’s pretty exciting when the doors are finally opened, and
waiting art lovers fan out looking for gems…only post-selection
does one know which artist they got. The pieces then stay exhibited
through 11/23, and all proceeds go to the Kleinert/James Exhibition
Program of the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild. Kleinert/James Arts Center,
34 Tinker St., www.woodstockguild.org,

SAT/SUN 12/1,2: TIVOLI UNITED CRAFT AND ART IN TIVOLI- To quote
the press release, “The primary impetus behind the creation
of this event is the need its participants see for the return, as
a society, to an appreciation for finely executed, handmade objects.
There is and will always remain a profound difference between that
which is handcrafted by a neighbor, over hours or days and those
goods that have, well, not.” Art prints, cards, screen-printed
items, handspun yarn, woodwork, silver, needlework, sculpture, digital
art, and “artisanal foods” will be available for purchase,
and makes for a nice reason to hang out in Tivoli for a day. 10
