Sa 5/17, Su 6/1– HIGH MEADOWS SCHOOL 5TH ANNUAL ART AUCTION/ RIDE THE RIDGE BIKE CHALLENGE, at High Meadow School, Stone Ridge—Two great events in Stone Ridge this month. The 5th Annual Art Auction showcases contributions from many of the area’s finest artists, from emerging talents to highly collectible and established ones. Last year’s group of contributors included Jake Berthot, Connie Fiedler, Astrid Fitzgerald, Lynne Friedman, Lorna Massie, G. Steve Jordan, Tracy Leavitt, Martin Puryear, Tom Sarrantonio, Thomas Stratton, and Claire Wasser. Hors d’oeuvres, wine, a live and silent auction, and live music as well. Then, on June 1st, The Ride the Ridge Bike Challenge raises funds for the Marbletown First Aid Unit (EMS) as well as the school, with 5, 25, and 50 mile rides through High Falls, Rosendale, New Paltz, over the West Trapps of the Shawangunk Ridge by Minnewaska, and returning to Stone Ridge. 5/24 through 6/4– TWEET SUITE: BIRDS OF NORTH AMERICA, paintings by Laura Levine at VARGA Gallery, Woodstock—Laura Levine, celebrated self–taught painter, rock & roll photographer, illustrator and filmmaker, exhibits her new series of paintings depicting birds of North America—with a special emphasis on birds of the Catskill Region—at VARGA Gallery. The reception (Sa 5/24, 6–9 PM) features a musical performance by Ida with special guest Michael Hurley. Levine is creating a special piece for the show titled ‘Songbirds of the Catskills’ which will also be released as a limited edition signed archival print in conjunction with the opening of exhibition. A percentage of all sales of the print will go to the local wildlife rescue and rehabilitation organization Ravensbeard.
