Art Highlights
1/24 through 2/9- “TEEN VISIONS ‘08” at the
James Palmer III Gallery, Vassar College, Poughkeepsie—More
than 125 works by high school students from the Art Institute
of Mill Street Loft are highlighted in this sixth annual “TEEN
VISIONS ‘08” exhibition. This juried show features paintings,
drawings, photography, and sculpture from more than 50 students
who participated in the Art Institute’s Summer Intensive and
Fall 2007 courses, many of whom move on to merit-based scholarships
to major colleges and art schools. Translation: these kids
have the goods, and if you’re wondering what’s cooking with
the next generation of young artists, check out this free

1/19 through 3/30- “MADE IN WOODSTOCK IV”
and “SHADOWS” at Centerfor Photography at Woodstock— “MADE
IN WOODSTOCK” is a biennial exhibition at CPW featuring works
by recent participants of Woodstock A-I-R, CPW’s residency
program for artists of color working in the photographic arts,
featuring Deborah Bay, Margarida Correia, Isaac Diggs, Isabelle
Lumpkin, Marlo Marrero, Natasha Moustache, Xaviera Simmons,
Rishi Singhal, Kwabena Slaughter, Toshi Ueshina, Preston Wadley,
and Vagner Whitehead. The solo exhibition is “SHADOWS,” works
by Catskill photographer Jared Handelsman, featuring large-scale
photograms and video work, haunting images of night shadows
exposed by headlight beams, moonlight, and flashlights. Reception
