12/14—THE WOODSTOCK BYRDCLIFFE GUILD PRESENTS THE ANNUAL SOLSTICE
CONCERT, FEATURING HAPPY & ARTIE TRAUM, JOHN SEBASTIAN, CINDY CASHDOLLAR,
LARRY CAMPBELL, JIMMIE DALE GILMORE, AND TERESA WILLIAMS, BEARSVILLE
THEATER, WOODSTOCK—If you’re a lover of good, honest American
music, be it folk, country, blues, Tex-Mex, or rock ‘n’
roll, this is a hard show to beat this December. Though it would take
up several pages to list the width and breadth of their collective careers
and influences, we’ll keep it brief, with due apologies to these
amazing artists. Happy Traum: Folksinging contemporary of Dylan, Seeger,
Ochs, musical pioneer and educator. Artie Traum: brilliant guitarist,
Blues Project, True Endeavor Jug Band, numerous recordings including
2007’s Thief Of Time. John Sebastian: Lovin’ Spoonful, Woodstock,
“Welcome Back Kotter,” hot blues harp. Cindy Cashdollar:
fiery dobro, Asleep At The Wheel, Paul Butterfield. Larry Campbell:
versatile multi-instrumentalist/artist, Levon’s Ramble house band,
Dylan’s touring band. Jimmie Dale Gilmore: Flatlander w/ Joe Ely
and Butch Hancock, top echelon Texas songwriter, “Smokey”
in The Big Lebowski. Teresa Williams: singer-songwriter featured w/
Larry Campbell and Levon Helm. We just don’t recommend missing

Fr 12/14—PERFECT THYROID WITH LEMONADE GRENADE, BIGGER THOMAS,
PUBLIC ACCESS, OUT BOTH ENDS, AND THE OVERTONES, THE LOFT, POUGHKEEPSIE—For
over 11 years now this New Paltz-based funk-ska conglomerate has been
an on-and-off favorite, touring extensively, opening for just about
every band on the planet, and releasing five CD’s (one on Shanachie).
With a rotating cast around the core of Chris “Skunk” Hanson,
Bill “Beetle” Hanson, and Chris Snykus, Perfect Thyroid
sports a good-time rhythm section with some of the best horns in the

12/15—DEAN JONES: NAPPER’S DELIGHT CD RELEASE PARTY AT THE
ROSENDALE CAFE, ROSENDALE—We at Roll have spilled ample ink on
behalf of this Zelig of the Hudson Valley Music scene. His prodigious
trombone chops have graced many a Sonando, Big Sky Ensemble, and Perfect
Thyroid (see above) gig, while his multi-instrumentalist talents sustain
Dog On Fleas, Uncle Buckle, and the recent High Meadows Arts CD (see
our CD reviews). Dean Jones’ latest, Napper’s Delight, a
children’s record for grownups, gets a rare performance at the
Café, aided by John Parker, Fooch Fischetti, Elizabeth Mitchell,

12/16—LESLIE RITTER & SCOTT PETITO ANNUAL HOLIDAY BENEFIT
CONCERT, WITH SPECIAL GUESTS AMY FRADON AND HELEN AVAKIAN, NEW WORLD
HOME COOKING, SAUGERTIES—According to Keyboard Magazine, Leslie
Ritter and Scott Petitio perform “a little folk, a little pop,
a little new age, and more than a little magic.” A reunion of
Leslie Ritter and Amy Fradon is anticipated, whose harmonies have enhanced
recordings by Orleans, Rick Danko, John Sebastian, the Fabulous Rhinestones
and Happy & Artie Traum, to name but a few. Special guest singer/songwriter/guitarist
Helen Avakian. Admission is a non-perishible food or cash donation to

1/4—KEVIN MCCRELL & THE HARD ROAD CEILIDH BAND AT TOWNE CRIER,
PAWLING—As well as being a founding member of Donnybrook Fair
and the McKrells, Kevin McKrell has been a touring force as of late,
with daughter Katie McKrell (on vocals, guitar, and bodhran) and the
Hard Road Ceilidh Band, hitting music festivals all over the country,
as well as Ireland, Scotland and Italy. They’ve opened for Furey
Brothers, The Battlefield Band, and Altan (among many others), and appeared
at Carnegie Hall. What better way to chase away the post New Years blues?
