six years on the road with the Mammals, husband-and-wife duo
Mike and Ruthy (Michael and Ruth Ungar Merenda) took advantage
of a wedding gift of free recording studio time, and quickly
knocked off this little gem. Mostly recorded as a duet (but
with occasional guests) harmonizing and playing a cornucopia
of acoustic instruments from banjos and harmonicas to glockenspiels,
The Honeymoon Agenda features intimate covers of Lou Reed
(“I’ll Be Your Mirror”), Bob Dylan (“I’ll
Keep It With Mine”), and Tom Waits (“Long Way
Home”), as well as originals and songs by lesser known
friends Aaron Rose and Carter Little. The songs sound like
kind, talented people in love, in a good way, not like…uh,
say Captain and Tenille…
