THROUGH
12/31—“REMNANTS,” PHOTOGRAPHY BY MARY DANIEL
HOBSON AT GALLERIE BMG, WOODSTOCK—West Coast artist
Mary Daniel Hobson combines photography, collage, and mixed
media to get timeless and evocative results. To quote the
website, “In Mapping the Body, Hobson explores, via
layered photographic collages, the emotions and experiences
that become imprinted on our body and enter beneath the surface
of the skin to become part of our inner worlds. Milagros,
a series dedicated to hope and positive change in the world,
combines photographs of people’s arms and hands with
symbolic images along with their own handwritten messages
expressing their wishes for miracles or positive change in
their lives. The more recent images in the Evocations series
combine a sense of mystery and fantasy using constructions
of bottles with photographs, old maps and art papers.”

THROUGH 12/31—“FUGITIVE GEOMETRY,” WORKS
BY OWEN HARVEY AT EVERETT & TREADWELL BLDG., KINGSTON—Woodstock-based
(and New Paltz educated) Owen Harvey has been making a post-modern
quasi-Mondrian splash with his iconic abstract work, often
juxtaposing stark lines and colors over natural wood grain
with interesting results. “Geometry permits a freedom
to go between the pictorial and flatness as well as provides
a pre-existing vocabulary of forms and composition. In the
process of this play, a breakdown occurs, a point at which
a system falls apart or moves beyond my immediate comprehension.
A Fugitive Geometry occurs.” Everett & Treadwell
Bldg., Kingston, www.owendharvey.blogspot.com
