Shadowland
Theatre, Ellenville—Hollywood meets small town Ireland
in this bleak but wickedly funny play about unloved “Cripple
Billy” in THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN, written by West End favorite,
and worldclass story-teller Martin McDonagh. Be sure to get over
there soon, if you haven’t yet, as it closes on Sunday 8/12.
Then it’s time for I DO! I DO!, a late-summer musical from
the writers of The Fantasticks, Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt. A
perennial favorite since the late 60’s, this show intimately
traces 50 years in the life of a marriage, from wedding night jitters,
through mid-life crisis, and on to reconciliation and acceptance.
From 8/17 to 9/9. 157 Canal St., Ellenville, www.shadowlandtheatre.org,
845.647.5511. Shows Th-Sa 8 PM, Su 2 PM.
Bard Summerscape: Spiegeltent—Apparently,
back in the old days in the Old World, people liked to get together
inside of big tents, and eat, drink, and dance the night away with
an evening of great food, entertainment, and music. Since when did
that ever go out of style? Right next to the Fisher Center on the
campus of Bard College, the Belgium-built Spiegeltent stands, waiting
for the Hudson Valley to discover its charms. Don’t miss your
last chance to enjoy it, as it closes down on 8/19. Dinner is served
from 5:30- 7:30 PM, then the Cabaret at 8:30 (Trio Loco Sa 8/4;
The Blackamoor Angel, 8/9,10,17,18; Dzul Dance, 8/11-12; God Blessthe
Music Hall, 8/16; BMF Closing Night: Slavic Soul Party, 8/19.) Then,
