Omi
International Arts Center—Omi is a non-profi t residency
program for international artists of all genres, that is also a
year round exhibition of modern sculpture. One of the features of
this pan-cultural panoply is the live music concert, the result
of a twoand-a-half week collaboration of musicians from all over
the globe (Australia, Uzbekistan, Germany, France, Scotland, Japan,
Vietnam, and US all represent this year.) Musicians chosen for this
project must be willing to improvise, share, and creatively cross-pollinate,
and not come in with pre-conceived ideas and compositions. The end
results are fi nally performed at the Arts Center, then the next
night in the City. Sounds like it might be worth zipping on up to

Los Lobos at Belleayre Music Festival—Ten
years from now, when they are updating the book of great rock groups
of the previous 40 years, well, if Los Lobos is somehow left off
the list, there should be hell to pay. Since 1973, this East LA-
based ensemble has made a career out of blurring musical genres,
blending rock, folk, blues, Tex-Mex, and country with traditional
Spanish and Mexican styles, while always maintaining a distinctive
style throughout. Between having great musical chops, ground-breaking
production, and quality songwriting, Los Lobos delivers the total
package in every live performance, and should not be missed this
time around, as they tour their new Hollywood Records release, The
Town and the City. Belleayre Music Festival, Bellayre Mt., Rt 28,
just west of Pine Hill, www.bellayremusic.org,
