Kingston Museum
of Contemporary Art- Former Mercury Rev keyboardist and longtime
Kingston resident Adam Snyder had a vision. While driving by the
No.2 Schoolhouse on West Chestnut St., he imagined a multi-genre
art space where he could bring together local HV creatives with
other young artists, musicians, and filmakers from New York City
and Nashville. Though that building later became condo-fi ed, a
storefront became available near the Armadillo down in the Rondout,
so Snyder and his partner, costume designer Aimee Gardner, leased
the space they now share with the Henk Dijk Gallery. Upcoming exhibitions:
Paul Joff e, “Earthscapes”, 8/4-25; Deborah DeGraff
enreid, American Portrait Project, 9/1-29. KMOCA, 105 Abeel St.,
www.kmoca.org. Saturdays, 12-4
PM.
Fovea Edition, Beacon Gallery- Just because the current Administration
would prefer that Americans not see the dead bodies and ugly truths
that are the results of their policies, it doesn’t mean you
shouldn’t see them anyway. Pulitzer prizewinning photojournalist
Todd Heiser (New York Times,) photojournalist Chris Hondros (Getty
Images) and photographer Suzanne Opton bring together three diff
erent viewpoints of the Iraq War for “It Is Our War”
(running through 8/31,) with powerful images of its effects on both
Americans and Iraqis. A panel discussion, “Media, Military,
and Censorship”, is on Saturday Aug. 11 (5 PM), with the photographers
and additional guests. Th en in September, Fovea presents “The
Children of Darfur,” by photojournalist Ron Haviv (also showing
earlier at East Villiage Collective, Woodstock.) Though the reality
of the genocide in Sudan is painful, it’s important to bear
witness to these events, and call attention to them. Presentation
and reception Sa 9/8, 4-8 PM. 143 Main Street, www.FoveaEditions.org,
845.765.2199. Th -Su,11 AM-6 PM.
