Live at Town Hall Party 1958 | Sundazed Music

ROLL BACK | Review by Peter Aaron

And when it comes to cool, any record by rockabilly queen Wanda Jackson is bound to have it by the ton. Another vinyl exclusive, the 10-inch EP Live at Town Hall Party 1958 boasts six rip-roaring rockers and honky-tonk weepers from a spot on the fabled country music TV show (other titles in Sundazed’s Live at Town Hall Party series feature Gene Vincent, Johnny Cash, and Eddie Cochran). If you’re not banging your head, pounding the table, and stomping your feet as the larynx-shredding Jackson (backed here by a smoking band that stars Joe Maphis, Skeets McDonald, “Fiddlin’ Kate” Warren, and others) tears through a pre-Elvis version of her original “Mean, Mean Man,” you simply have no pulse, my friend. And it spells it out right on the cover: “Red Hot Rock ’n Roll.” Talk about your truth in advertising.
