Th 4/10- Preview Screening of National Geographic Channel documentary HUMAN FOOTPRINT, at Bearsville Theater, Woodstock—Filmed mostly on location in Ulster and Dutchess Counties, and using local casts and crew courtesy of the Hudson Valley Film Commission, this National Geographic Channel documentary gives a visual reality to the consumption and waste impact on the planet of average Americans, from cradle to grave. It’s a different perspective when it’s all added up: 3,796 diapers, 43,371 cans of soda, 28,433 showers—that’s pretty daunting when confronted in totality. The screening at Bearsville is a benefit for the HVFC, and ticket info is available at www.hudsonvalleyfilmcommission.org. The program will also be airing Su 4/13, at 9 PM Eastern. Bearsville Theater, 291 Tinker St. (Rte. 212), Woodstock, www.bearsvilletheater.com, 845.679.4406. 8 PM
Tu 4/15- Special screening with filmmaker Irena Salina of FLOW: FOR THE LOVE OF WATER, at Upstate Films, Rhinebeck—The global water supply isn’t just at risk, it’s in crisis, and we can see this worldwide: African plumbers reconnect shantytown water pipes under cover of darkness to ensure a community’s survival; a Californian scientist forces awareness of shockingly toxic public water sources; a “Big Water” CEO argues privatization is the wave of the future; a “Water Guru” in India sparks new community water initiatives in hundreds of villages; a Canadian author uncovers the corporate profiteering that drives global water business. With an unflinching focus on politics, pollution and human rights, FLOW is a catalyst for awareness and action, and this screening is co-sponsored by Upstate Films and The Hudson Valley Programmers' Group, with a post-screening discussion and reception with filmmaker Irena Salina.
