Kari Spieler comes from the singer-songwriter school of strong rhythmic self-accompaniment, filling out the space without the need of a band. Producers Pete Caigan and Paul Shiavo don’t mess with this much, wrapping the rhythm section around Spieler’s songs, which express a vibe like a less strident Alanis Morrisette: that of an empowered young woman observing her relationships with a cool detachment.
